The Department of Kannada and Culture functions under the State Government. In the District the Department is involved in encouraging art and culture among the people. The Department through the artists of the District is involved in introducing classical and folk art forms to the society. Separate programs are held targeting the children’s, youth,women,scheduled castes and scheduled tribes

Pensions are given to artists above 60 years of age and in the BPL category. The birthday celebrations of many stalwarts of the state are carried out

The childhood home of Padmabhushan General Thimmayya “ Sunny Side” is congested into a museum and maintained by the Department under the Chairmanship of the Deputy commissioner. Sunny side was inaugurated on 06-02-2021 by the honourable President of India
